1. When you were growing up, who
was your footballing idol?
Well I supported Chelsea, actually when I was growing up. It was people like Peter
Osgood and Ian Hutchinson but I'd have to say Pele was the main man.
2. Who was the greatest player you
have ever played against and why?
I was lucky enough to have played against Maradona and he, for me, was the best,
basically just because of the things he could do with a ball. It was just unreal.
3. What was the most memorable
moment of your career and why?
That would have to be Giants Stadium, Italy
knocked us out in 1990 and then in
1994, we were lucky enough to beat them so that had to be it.
4. What was the lowest moment of
your career and why?
Oh there was a few of those, I got a phone
call from Mick when he took over the
Irish team and he said that he wasn't going to be using me again so that was a bit
of a body-blow.
5. Who had the biggest influence on
your career?
Well there were three lads actually from
Dalkey. Frank Mullin, Johnny Dunne and Tony Cullen and they helped me from the age of
seventeen and right through my career with Manchester United so I'd always ring them up if
I had a problem but over there it would have to be Ron Atkinson.
6. If Ireland succeed in qualifying
for the European Championships, how well do you think they will do?
Well I think if they got everyone fit, if they
had Roy back, because I just think Roy is a very special player so if they had him back
they'd have a bit of a chance but I wouldn't really think we'd do too well if we don't
have a full team because it could be very difficult.
7. Who do think is Ireland's most
influential player at the moment?
The same man because I think he's the best
player in England. He's not Ryan Giggs, he doesn't do fantastic things on the ball but he
just keeps the ball and bosses the game and he's just a huge influence and even Manchester
United are missing him at the moment so definitely Roy.
